What comes in a box?
On a weekly basis, we select what items come in our boxes based on seasonality and what is of good value. We also pride ourselves in supporting local suppliers whenever possible.
Where do I pick up my box?
We offer many pick-up locations around the city in many community spaces. Please visit Good Food on the Move's list of locations to find out where you can currently pick up a box during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Ottawa Good Food Box (OGFB) was created through the Coalition of Community and Health Resource Centres in 1996. Centretown Community Health Centre took the lead and OGFB began as a wholesale buying club with monthly deliveries to sites across the city.
In April 2019, OGFB’s operations were transferred to the Rideau-Rockcliffe Community Resource Centre under a nine-month pilot project in collaboration with the MarketMobile, in order to improve both services by combining efforts and resources.
In April 2020, OGFB collaborated with the MarketMobile in order to offer the Good Food at Your Doorstep, a COVID-19 temporary emergency service to support Ottawa households with limited financial and physical access in accessing affordable fresh fruits and vegetables during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. This temporary service ended in mid-June 2020 due to funding limitations.
In July 2020, Good Food on the Move, a "click-and-collect" online store. The store now offers offering fresh produce (local and imported) and Ottawa Good Food Boxes with weekly pick-up locations throughout the City of Ottawa.
Good Food at Your Doorstep: A COVID-19 Service
In April 2020, the Ottawa Good Food Box quickly pivoted from its regular operations in order to provide the Good Food at Your Doorstep service, a collaboration with the MarketMobile and Rideau-Rockcliffe Community Resource Centre.
Good Food at Your Doorstep was a temporary fresh produce home delivery service offered during Phase 1 of the COVID-19 state of emergency in Ottawa. This service provided households with limited financial and physical access to fresh food.
During its 10 weeks of operations, Good Food at Your Doorstep delivered 5,689 produce boxes with over 850 of those boxes being donated free of charge to community members.
We wouldn't have been able to do it without funding from Community Food Centres Canada (Good Food Access Fund) and the Ottawa Community Foundation (COVID-19 – Rapid Response Fund)!
